Steve Earle returns to our country in December, a year and a half after his last Italian appearance. He will perform in Milan, Rome and Faenza in an acoustic guise, accompanied only by his guitar.
Steve Earle was born in 1955 in Virginia and already as a young boy began playing the guitar and composing songs, until meeting in the early 1970s the singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandtwho became his mentor as well as his friend. From that moment on he began to be influenced by them, and in fact his debut album in 1986, 'Guitar Town'is characterised by western and folk sounds, so much so that it has been defined as 'New Country'.
Meanwhile, Steve, despite his overwhelming success that took him to the top of the American charts, continued to lead a turbulent and rebellious life of excess. His rock'n roll soul, which he never really abandoned completely, also came out with the 1988 album 'Copperhead Road' and with 'The Hard Way' (1990), backed by the band that accompanies him in live performances, the Dukes. However, these were also the years in which his problems with drugs escalated, so much so that Earle was arrested and forced to stop his musical activities for two years. At the end of 1994, he was released and started releasing albums again, reaching peak popularity in 1996 with a Grammy Award nomination. In 2005 and 2007 he received further Grammy nominations, winning both years the award for 'Best Contemporary Folk Album', respectively with The Revolution Starts...Now e 'Washington Square Serenade'.
He recently produced Joan Baez's new work 'Day After Tomorrow' and recently released 'Townes'which contains 15 tracks, some of which were written by his friend Van Zandt, who passed away over ten years ago. The disc also includes 'Lungs', a track on which he played Tom Morello by Rage Against The Machine.
Earle is considered by many insiders to be one of the greatest American singer-songwriters of recent years, whose humanitarian and social commitment is also appreciated, and it is no coincidence that some of his songs have been played by the likes of Johnny Cash and The Pretenders.
Steve Earle will be in Italy this winter to present tracks from his new album 'Townes' in three evenings that will take on an intimate and engaging dimension, warmed by his guitar and voice.
