Peter Hammillsinger and founder of the historic progressive band Van Der Graaf Generator, returns to our country with six dates. He will perform 6, 7 and 8 December at Teatro Rosmini in Borgomanero (NO), Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and Teatro Palamostre in Udine, the 10th and 11 December at the Cine Teatro Gavezzini in Seriate (BG)and at the Club Il Giardino in Lugagnano Sonà (VR), to then close the tour 13 December at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence.
He recently released his new solo album, 'Thin Air', a record that follows a period full of activity for the 60-year-old Peter Hammill. After the reunion of the Van Der Graaf Generator, a group of which he is the singer and founder and which he has never abandoned in recent years while maintaining a flourishing solo career, Hammill locked himself in the studio and wrote the nine tracks of 'Thin Air', the successor to 2006's 'Singularity'. And it is precisely for three years that the British singer has not returned to Italy for a solo concert, a country of which he is very fond and which in 2004 also honoured him with the Tenco Prize. It is not easy to separate Hammill's solo activity from his activity with the band, as his first album dates back to 1971, when he was still with Van Der Graaf Generator. The band supported him from the start, providing him with material and collaborations, and on the other hand Hammill never stopped collaborating with them. The musical approach that we find in his records, including the new one, is always related to progressive rock, but also embraces electronic sounds and more introspective atmospheres. The lyrics are always very cerebral and rich in philosophical, literary and religious ideas, with deep and touching themes, as is Hammill's vocalism in interpreting them.

Peter Hammill, cantante e fondatore della storica band progressive Van Der Graaf Generator, torna nel nostro Paese con sei date. Ha da poco pubblicato il nuovo album solista, ‘Thin Air’, disco che segue un periodo ricco di attività per il sessantenne Peter Hammill. Dopo la reunion dei Van Der Graaf Generator, gruppo del quale è cantante e fondatore e che non ha mai abbandonato in questi anni pur mantenendo una fiorente carriera solista, Hammill si è chiuso in studio e ha scritto le nove tracce di ‘Thin Air’, successore di ‘Singularity’ del 2006. Ed è proprio da tre anni che il cantante britannico non torna in Italia per un concerto solista, Paese al quale è molto affezionato e che nel 2004 lo ha anche omaggiato con il Premio Tenco. Non è facile separare l’attività solista di Hammill da quella con il gruppo, in quanto il suo primo album risale al 1971, anno in cui militava ancora con i Van Der Graaf Generator. La band lo appoggiò fin da subito, fornendogli materiale e collaborazioni, e dall’altra parte Hammill non smise mai di collaborare con loro. L’approccio musicale che ritroviamo nei suoi dischi, compreso quello nuovo, è sempre legato al rock progressivo, ma abbraccia anche sonorità elettroniche ed atmosfere più introspettive. I testi sono sempre molto cerebrali e ricchi di spunti filosofici, letterari e religiosi, con temi profondi e toccanti, così come lo è la vocalità di Hammill nell’interpretarli.
