I Monster Magnetone of the most influential stoner metal bands on the American scene in recent years, come to Italy Sunday 23 November at Alcatraz in Milanone year after the release of the new record '4 way diablo' for the SPV label. They will be preceded by some special guests, whose names have yet to be revealed.
It is the 1989 when Dave Wyndorf decided to start Monster Magnet. Since the early 1980s, Dave, originally from New Jersey (USA), had been involved in metal projects with the most diverse names, of which the two most remembered are the 'Dog of Mystery' and the 'Airport 75'. Born as a garage band performing covers of Black Sabbath, they began to write their own songs inspired by the Stooges and 1970s space rock, whose sci-fi imagery they still retain today. Over the years, the line-up changed, partly due to internal disagreements, until it stabilised with the current one. The only veteran is Dave Wyndorf, singer and guitaristwhile the bass is by Jim Baglinothe Bob Pantella's drums and the other guitar by Ed Mundell. The band released six albums that allowed them to gain an ever-widening fan base, thanks also to the live activity that best expressed the energy and power of their songs. The wrestler Matt Hardy even goes as far as to use the song 'Live for the moment' for his entrance into the ring, so strong is the adrenalin rush that listening to it provokes. However, 2006 is a critical year: Wyndorf is miraculously saved from a drug overdose and the four are forced to take a break. The singer ends up in rehab and in the meantime begins to compose the pieces that will end up in the seventh '4 way diablo'which was released the following year and was greatly affected by the tragic experience. The 60s and 70s influences are still strong and are underlined by the presence of a cover of '2000 Light Years from home', a Rolling Stone song from 1967, also rich like the other twelve tracks in psychedelic references mixed with classic rock on the one hand and metal on the other.

Monster Magnet's tour, which started this summer with a few European dates (including Great Britain and several northern countries), will stop in our country in the autumn.
