The date is set for Sunday 19 August at the Ariano Folkfestival in Ariano Irpino (AV). I tickets will be available on the official circuit postoriservato.it, all info on www.arianofolkfestival.it. So Calypso!, available from 25 May 2018 on Because, is Calypso Rose's new album, a collection of covers of songs that have inspired her music and 6 new original tracks. The legendary 'Calypso Queen', born McArtha Linda Sandy-Lewis on the Caribbean island of Tobago in 1940, is one of the Caribbean's greatest musicians. Named 'Calypso Queen' in 1972, she still lives up to the title. Today, she is a spokesperson and powerful figure in the fight for women's rights.

His latest album from 2016, Far From Homealso published in Because and produced by Manu Chao and Drew Gonsalves (Kobo Town) was a huge success, winning platinum in France and the prestigious Victoires de la Musique (the French Grammys). She was also named 'Artist of the Year' at the WOMEX Awards in 2016.

In the new album, So Calypso!the Tobago diva has decided to pay tribute to all the artists who have influenced her musical career and life: Nat King Cole, Aretha Franklin, The Melodians and Angelique Kidjo. From America to Jamaica via Benin, all of them have inspired the greatest calypso artist to combine black music and social activism since the beginning of her career in the 1960s. The first taste of the new album is a cover of Nat King Cole 'Calypso Blues'a song where the crooner, pianist and militant against racism and segregation questioned the 'American Dream' by praising papaya juice and rice with shrimps, but also the simple, penniless life and the beauty of Trinidadian women. Calypso Rose reinterpreted the song with humour, adding a touch of reggae and soul. The 78-year-old diva, with 22 albums to her credit, plays with the idea of nostalgia, Caribbean blues and the simplicity of life.

A feminist pioneer, Caribbean cultural icon and tireless artist, she wrote more than 800 songs in fifty years. She won the Trinidad Road March in 1975 with the song Do Dem Backbut in the calypso world, dominated entirely by men, the title was taken away from her and handed to Kitchener. In 1977 she won again with Give Me More Time and this time she was allowed to keep the award. At the following year's carnival, her song Like Leh We jam won the 'Calypso King', forcing the organisers to change the name of the title to 'Calypso Monarch' in his honour.
