The non-profit association A Greener Festival, set up in 2006 to promote environmental sustainability in art and music festivals in Europe, the United States and Australia, has awarded Dieci Giorni Suonati, the festival organised and produced by Barley Arts at Castello di Vigevano, 2 stars, just one less than international events with an important pedigree such as Primavera Sound or Bonnaroo. The 2 stars and the definition of 'Commended' are attributed to festivals characterised by good organisation and overt environmental awareness.
Dieci Giorni Suonati, which since its first edition in 2010 has clearly focused on the quality of the proposal, in terms of music, environment and services, thus sees its nature fully recognised, that of a festival of excellent live music without genre restrictions, with a connotation of eco-sustainability unparalleled in Italy. The full expression of this approach is in the 'La Buona Musica è A.R.I.A.' (A Reduced Environmental Impact) project developed by the University of Gastronomic Sciences, Design Polytechnic of Turin and Molecole Sistemiche precisely for the festival at Vigevano Castle. Among the various strengths of the project are the short supply chain catering with genuine food and drinks from certified producers and the zeroing of polluting emissions guaranteed by RECS certificates from Edison, a partner in the festival.
The A.R.I.A. project with its holistic scheme for a better enjoyment of the event in every respect by an aware and involved audience, also earned Dieci Giorni Suonati a nomination for the 'Green Inspiration Award', a new category established this year.
But the accolades for Dieci Giorni Suonati are not over yet: the 2012 edition, which between June and July offered an important musical programme with concerts by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ben Harper, Lenny Kravitz, Mika, Wolfmother, Garbage, Paul Weller, Incubus, James Morrison and G3, is also in the running for the Festival Award, a nomination in the "Best Medium-Sized Festival" category organised by Yourope, the Association that brings together European festivals. Voting (on the official website eu.festivalawards.com at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/efa2012 ) is open until 31 October 2012 and the winners will be awarded at the Roundhouse in London on 3 December during the gala ceremony.
