Johnny Borrellformerly known as singer and guitarist of the indie-rock band Razorlight, arrives in our country with his solo project together with the trio Zazouto present thedebut album 'Borrell1'. Two Italian dates are planned for Johnny Borrell & Zazou: Thursday 17 October in Rome at the Atlantico and Friday 18 October in Milan at the Salumeria della Musica. Opening, the Irish lo-fi singer-songwriter Pat Dam Smyth and the American musician Z Berg.
Released on 22 July 2013 by Stiff Records/Virgin EMI, "Borrell1" is the first studio work by Johnny Borrell after five years. "Borrell1" was originally recorded by Johnny on a 4-track recorder together with a group of musicians, including the Razorlight bassist Freddie Stitzthe Brazilian saxophonist Joao Mello e Darren Berry. After presenting the songs live, Johnny decided to record them again in London with legendary producer Trevor Horn.
Of the album Johnny said: "The music simply came very naturally. It's an album born in the spirit of a party, and the arrangements for the songs reflect that atmosphere'. Borrell also called the album 'a rock'n'roll album with no bass and drums, virtually no guitars'. In fact, it is vintage keyboards, percussion and sax solos that are the protagonists of an album in which Latin echoes merge with a bohemian attitude.
The first single taken from 'Borrell1' is 'Pan-European Supermodel Song (Oh! Gina)'.
