Sold out last night at the Arcimboldi Theatre for the Milan leg of theAncient Muse Tour which brought LOREENA McKENNITT in Italy for four dates. An exciting, refined and engaging concert was witnessed yesterday by the 2,400 people who flocked to the theatre in Milan.
Loreena's set, accompanied on stage by nine musicians (violin, guitar, bass, cello, percussion, keyboards, gyrinth, viola, drums) ranged from the Celtic atmospheres that made her famous to her latest successful experiments with a Middle Eastern flavour.
McKennitt takes to a stage whose set design is inspired by the artwork of her latest album 'An Ancient Muse'It is the violet tones that surround the musicians, mostly dressed in medieval garb. The guitarist's performance is stupendous Brian Huges and the drummer Tal BergmanThey were able, at certain moments, to give a touch of absolute musical eccletism: Brian tried his hand at no less than three different types of guitars while Tal contributed to the overwhelming rhythm section.
Above it all, always, Loreena's ethereal voice.
