A few days after the release of his long-awaited new album 'Sonic Kicks' (27 March), Paul Weller confirms three concerts in Italy, on 10 July at the Atlantico Live in Rome, on the 11th at Ferrara Sotto le Stelle and on the 12th at 10 Giorni Suonati at Castello di Vigevano.
The modfather's return live in Italy, after a few years' absence, is a real event for the fans who have been following him faithfully for years throughout a career that has no comparison in the world: Weller is practically the only artist to have achieved success and the top of the charts with every project and in every period of his very long artistic life. The six albums with The Jam, his first band, five with The Style Council and the first ten solo albums ('Sonic Kicks' is the eleventh) have indelibly marked at least four decades in British music and paved the way for styles, fashions and bands that still today do not hesitate to attribute the paternity and source of their creative vein to Paul Weller, an unshakeable icon who with every single album released has gone straight to the top of the UK Charts.
But Weller without false modesty emphasises: 'Of course I am proud of what I have done, but what I am most looking forward to is what lies ahead. I want to have weight now, in 2012. I have done mine in the past, but each time I have always looked beyond, really, and it will be like that forever, at least until I collapse'.
Sonic Kicks, on which Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon (Blur) also collaborated, was recently presented in exclusive shows at the Roundhouse in London, on the occasion of the album's release in the UK, a week earlier than in the rest of Europe. On the tour, Paul Weller, accompanied by his band (which includes Steve Cradock, his long-time collaborator), is spoilt for choice when it comes to the repertoire, which frequently changes from one concert to the next. Unforgettable songs such as 'The Modern World', 'You Do Something To Me', 'My Ever Changing Moods', 'Wild Wood', 'Town Called Malice' and countless others are milestones on which Paul Weller and all of us can always rely to look to the future with healthy optimism.
