11/05/09: THE CITY OF

The Milanese venue in Via Valtellina was a great sight to behold last Saturday when the Marta sui Tubi took the stage at Rock Night. Almost a homecoming for the Sicilian band, who dedicated their latest album to Milan, their adopted city Sushi and Coke. The audience is a big one and welcomes the MST with great warmth.
Between songs from their latest album and their early days, guests and friends also take turns on stage: a creepy and unusual Marco Maccarini in a horror suit and belly dancers Sara and Silviah provide the backdrop for the most emotional moments of the evening. Marta sui Tubi confirm themselves as one of the best live acts in Italy, moving from moments of pure energy to moments of calm, again ready to explode. The voice of John Gulino never stops experimenting, just as Carmelo Pipitone (guitar and vocals) displays a decidedly enviable technique and intention. Ivan Paolini, behind the skins, is the group's engine and the last two grafts, Paolo Pischedda (keyboards) and Mattia Boschi (cello) fit perfectly into the picture.
The Sicilian band's tour continues throughout the summer, of which they will be the absolute stars.
