12/06/09: ROBERTO VECCHIONI: 'IN CANTUS' STARTS IN LA SPEZIA

Debut of the 12 June in La Spezia the new version of In-Cantusa project of great artistic depth between poetry and music that Roberto Vecchioni will take to Italy's most beautiful squares during the summer.
In-Cantus is the brainchild of the Maestro Beppe D'Onghia who, with the aim of combining pop and classical music, traditional verse and contemporary poetry, addresses the search for a language that crosses and transcends the boundaries of different cultures and traditions. This is why he has conceived a show in which the transition from classical arias to popular and modern songs flows absolutely naturally. Roberto Vecchioni's concert was initially conceived as a special event in its own right, intended to be staged for only four performances in as many cathedrals during Christmas 2008. Instead, the great success and special affinity that arose from the fortunate meeting between Roberto Vecchioni and Beppe D'Onghia suggested an evolution of the project and its revival, to the point that a CD/DVD is already being planned from the new show.
In-Cantus is proposed as a journey through classical arias interspersed with Vecchioni's songs and poems from his own or other authors' books. Following this idea, Roberto Vecchioni, with the support of the Nu-Ork String Quintet and accompanied by Ilaria Biagini on flute and backing vocals, will perform both live in the style of the singer-songwriter and artist extraordinaire that everyone knows. His will be the singing and storytelling voice of the concert, which will feature, for example "Puccini's 'Vissi d'arte', a jazz version of the Christmas carol 'Jingle Bells', Chajkowsky's 'Patetica', Rachmaninoff's 'Concerto No. 2 in C Minor (which enjoyed new popularity in the late 1990s thanks to the film Shine by Scott Hicks), verses recited to classical music reworked for the occasion by Maestro D'Onghia, songs by Roberto Vecchioni rearranged for piano and string quintet, including Lights in Sansiro, Blumun, Dream Boy, The Blue Roses, Miladyas well as some spoken pieces between songs, for which Vecchioni does not hesitate to mention other great authors such as Gassman, Neruda or Borghes.
