10/02/09: EMILIANA TORRINI AND HER TRIO IN ITALY FROM THURSDAY 12 FEBRUARY FOR THREE CONCERTS

From Iceland with passion, Emiliana Torrini comes to Italy for three concerts, on 12 February at Magazzini Generali in Milan, 13 at Corallo di Scandiano and 14 at Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome.
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter with an Italian name (her father is a compatriot, her mother is Swedish) has recently returned to the scene with Me and Arminia particularly successful third album and a return to the intense sounds of Love in The Time of Science, the debut that in 1999 introduced the world to a more pop and less alienating, but equally interesting side of Bjork's Iceland.
Emiliana Torrini is among the most expressive talents that indie music has known in recent years. She came to the general public thanks to the composition of The Gollum Song for the 'Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' soundtrack and has written songs for many international pop stars, such as 'Slow' for Kylie Minogue. But she has made a name for herself with very personal albums, although at times reminiscent of the equally fascinating musical territories of Nick Drake, Portished, early Morcheeba, Jolie Holland and Beth Gibbons: 1999's 'Love in the Time of Science' was hailed, as mentioned, as a small artistic miracle of a new talent between songwriting and trip hop; the subsequent 'Fisherman's Woman' in 2005, which has an even more sparse sound, on which melody takes over, was a triumphant success at the Icelandic Music Awards of that year. Me And Armini, three years after its predecessor, is an album of 'crazy love songs', as its author defines it, and it moves in an alternation of different atmospheres, between delicate acoustic passages and psychedelic intrusions, persuasive melodies and lively rhythms, always enveloped in the ethereal grace that characterises Emiliana Torrini's style. The three dates in Italy as part of her European tour will see her on stage in the company of a trio, which also includes her trusted producer and guitarist Dan Carey.
