That the music of String Cheese Incident is something that cannot be categorised is undeniable: "the most sacrilegious mix of bluegrass, rock, afro-pop, funk and jazz"is defined by some, "The Grateful Dead of our time' reiterate others. One thing is certain: a String Cheese Incident concert is an experience that is hard to forget. For the first time in their career, the American band comes to Italy, on a single date tonight Monday 22 March at Transilvania Live in Milan.
Hard to forget for several reasons: the close relationship with the audience above all. The String Cheese Incident have enlisted in their career an enviable line-up of aficionados, maddened by the musical melting pot of the American quintet. Every year they all get together and organise the International Incident: the chosen meeting places are Jamaica or Mexico or Costa Rica, and then it's off to endless sessions of hours and hours of music. In the classic Phish tradition.
Also for the Italian date, the band has already announced that the show will last three hours. Hence the decision to bring forward the start of the concert to 8 p.m..
The group was formed in 1993 in Boulder, Colorado. Years of jam sessions between venues on the American West Coast were crowned when the group was called to the legendary Telluride Bluegrass Festival. One gig every two days: this is the average that the group has been maintaining for many years on its tours, driven by an insatiable desire for live music. And the surprising thing is that these are not just guitar, bass and drums 'gigs', but amazing shows by five multi-instrumentalists, alternating between acoustic and electric guitars, violins, fiddles, mandolins, percussion, you name it. The band's intense live activity found concrete support when they founded their own label, Sci Fidelity, for which they began recording several live experience records in 1997.
