Published in 1994, The Mask and Mirror has been described as 'timeless and transcendent' and praised for its cross-cultural contamination of Celtic, Spanish and Moroccan influences, and is undoubtedly one of the best-loved works of the McKennitt who says: "This album has been a historical and musical pilgrimage for me and I am thrilled to bring it back on stage during the summer tour in Europe. This is a milestone anniversary in my career and I can't wait to celebrate it."
In composing it, Loreena states that he followed different inspirations and considered some questions that resonate in history: "Who was God? What are religion and spirituality? What was revealed and what hidden, what was the mask and what was the mirror?"
