BELLYDANCE SUPERSTARS: BELLY DANCERS IN MILAN TONIGHT

From the encounter between a brilliant rock business manager and a group of sensual belly dancers who are among the best in the world, only a unique show can be born, one that fuses oriental aromas and rhythms with the grandeur of western musicals. MILES COPELAND, the historic manager of the Police and later of Sting, has sniffed out a new frontier of successful entertainment, selected the BELLYDANCE SUPERSTARS and created a majestic show for them, in which the sensuality of belly dancing shines in the spotlight and reaches the heart.

Three dates at the Teatro Smeraldo in Milan are the Italian debut for Sonia, Jillina, Ansuya, Amar, Rachel, Dondi, Saida, Bozenkathe Bellydance Superstars, who are currently on an intense European tour, after having literally conquered the United States with over 60 performances in nine weeks. Perhaps just talking about belly dancing is reductive for such a show.

Specifically, the troupe boasts some of the best dancers in the world from Brazil, the United States and Argentina. The pace of work that the girls underwent was truly exhausting: an American tour of 60 shows, with 600 km a day travelled by bus to reach the planned location, eating at petrol stations, at least 5 hours of rehearsals, about 2 hours of shows and 5 or 6 hours to sleep. Many combined this with seminars held in some of the cities on the tour. Then immediately back 'on the road', with a spirit close to that of rock bands on the rise and determined to achieve success through their passion. It is no coincidence that the presentation of the BellyDance Superstars project to the world took place during the LOLLAPALOOZA 2003one of the biggest alternative rock festivals in the world.

Illustrating his new project, Miles Copeland points out that after having sold, through the artists he has believed in (Police, Sting, but also the Gogo's, Cheb Mami for the duet with Sting in the worldwide hit Desert Rose and many, many more), 200 million albums and having sold out stadiums and arenas all over the world, he feels he can recognise a STAR when he meets one. "I have spent a lot of time and effort getting to know this dance form in depth, I have seen many of the best dancers in the world, the icons, the stars of this genre. But at the end of the day, I am NOT part of the belly dance world. Others do business in this industry and will always do it better than me. I, on the other hand, belong to the entertainment business, an industry that responds to precise rules that cannot be ignored. BELLYDANCE SUPERSTARS is a celebration of the ART of dance, but above all it is a SHOW that must capture the attention for at least 2 hours, it must interest and impress and go beyond the narrow confines of the genre's enthusiasts or initiates. The dancers chosen must be attractive on several levels, they must have charisma, transmit energy on stage, communicate cheerfulness in an almost contagious way, be beautiful and capable of taking their art beyond the usual boundaries, to new places and new people, with an open heart, and above all an open mind"..

All this to conclude that BellyDance Superstars has the same feelings as those felt during the Police's second US tour, when it was obvious that something big was about to happen and everyone was trying to seize the moment.

A winning formula, Bellydance Superstars draws on the ancient art of dance to enhance femininity to the fullest through an impressive show comprising a variety of solo and group performances ranging from cabaret to tribal, jazz and Egyptian dance, in a panorama of lights, costumes and grandiose choreography.

The music played during the show includes pieces by artists Hakim, Oojami and Amr Diab and percussionist Wassan Pharaoon.
