Claudio Trotta is an Italian artistic producer, active in the creation of live music shows, food truck festivals, musicals and edutainment shows.
He is one of the founders of Yourope, an association grouping the main European music festivals, and Assomusica, the association of Italian concert promoters and producers.
At the age of 17, he began working with the Milanese radio stations Radio Montestella and Canale 96.
In 1979 he graduated as a Musical Operator from the Paolo Grassi School of Dramatic Art in Milan, spending a period of training at the Teatro alla Scala. In the same year he was involved by Lucio Salvini (at that time president of Dischi Ricordi) in the "Country and Folk" project, becoming the Italian promoter of the tours of the artists of the record labels involved in the project with his first concert organisation and promotion company.
In 1981 Lucio Salvini entrusted him with the role of artistic director and marketing director of the 'Blues & Rock Project' series of Carosello Records.
In the summer of 1987 he conceived the open-air film festival in the Art Nouveau pool of Milan's Trotter Park, as well as the Milano Blues Festival, which was hosted for five editions (from 1987 to 1991) at the Arco della Pace.
In 1994 he organised for the Municipality of Milan the celebrations of the Ambrosian Carnival and the Festa dei Folli in Piazza del Duomo and in the Sala delle Cariatidi of the Palazzo Reale. In the same year he organised, as part of the Milan F.U.O.C.O. Naviglio Festival, a descent of the Naviglio followed by a concert in the Darsena with songs, drums, rituals, mechanical workshops and fireworks.
Between 1994 and 1996 he organised the Sonoria rock festival at Parco Acquatica in Milan, with the participation of artists of the calibre of Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, Page and Plant, Rage Against The Machine and many Italian artists at the beginning of their careers, from Subsonica to Marlene Kuntz, Afterhours and Carmen Consoli.
In 1995, together with Paolo Zenoni, he edited the book Dizionario Enciclopedico Musicale di Milano.
In 2005 he produced the first Campovolo in Reggio Emilia for Luciano Ligabue: it was the longest-selling live show ever by a single artist in Europe, boasting more than 170,000 attendees.
In 2012 it managed the experimental O.C.A. project at the former Ansaldo in Milan, organising and hosting an average of four different events per day over a 7-month period.
In over forty years of career, Claudio Trotta has produced and promoted over fifteen thousand concerts by Italian and international artists around the world, including AC/DC, Queen, Kiss, The Cure, Bruce Springsteen (whom he has brought to Italy 33 times since 1999), Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Lenny Kravitz, Van Morrison, Loreena McKennitt, Ray Charles, Norah Jones, Ry Cooder, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, The Chemical Brothers, Mika, Deep Purple, Pearl Jam, Ligabue, Renato Zero, Gianna Nannini, Litfiba, Elio e le Storie Tese, Ben Harper, Anderson Paak, Flaming Lips, The White Buffalo, John Butler, Niccolò Fabi and many others. He is also the first promoter and live producer of Tiziano Ferro, Negramaro and Le Vibrazioni. He has created a series of festivals and shows of different genres such as Monsters of Rock, Irlanda in Festa, Laghi Lombardi in Festival, Monza Rock Festival, Fleadh, Balkanika, Flippaut, Diversi Suoni al Conservatorio, Live Across, Dieci Giorni Suonati, Hello Folks Sessions and Streeat European Food Truck Festival. In addition, it has produced in Italy family shows and edutainment events such as Walking With Dinosaurs, BBC Earth Concerts, Michael Flatley's Lord of The Dance and music shows such as Titanic, Bahrati and We Will Rock You.
In 2015 it produced the AC/DC concert at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, with over 92,000 spectators, a concert that coincided with the reopening of the autodrome to major music events.
In January 2017 in Milan, at the Franco Parenti Theatre, he organised the first world conference entitled "La Negazione del Secondary Ticketing - Dall'artista al Consumatore" (The Negation of Secondary Ticketing - From the Artist to the Consumer) on the phenomenon of Secondary Ticketing (so-called electronic scalping). In the same year, he published his autobiography "No Pasta No Show" for Mondadori Electa.
In January 2018, he founded Slow Music ETS, a non-profit association whose aim is to create a network of cooperation between industry players and music users.
In 2019 with Slow Music idea A.R.M.O.N.I.A., the first sustainable project curated by the Association and in collaboration with the Lombardy Region and ERSAF that aims to create a modern image of mountain forests and nature reserves, to help raise awareness of the forests of Lombardy and the Stelvio Park with concerts, meetings and conferences.
In the same year Claudio Trotta with Slow Music goes on to launch the initiative I luoghi della Musica (Places of Music) together with the Municipality of Milan, to mark and enhance iconic places in the city such as artists' birthplaces, former headquarters of record companies or historical venues and much more with the first dedicated plaque and event at the Arena Civica in Milan placed on 24 November 2019.
In April 2020, the association launched the free and independent magazine Slow Club, broadcast on YouTube and other social channels, to which Italian and international artists contribute their videos. On 3 September of the same year Slow Club left the web and took the form of Slow Club Live, an evening held in the Cortile delle Armi of Milan's Castello Sforzesco - as part of the Estate Sforzesca - and featuring on stage many of the guests who had sent in their video contributions.
In 2020, during the months of the first lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Claudio Trotta, along with the Slow Music Executive Committee and a long list of external collaborators - including show designers, doctors and occupational safety consultants - formed a working group that created Vengo anch'io... per sentire l'effetto che fa (I'm coming too... to feel the effect it has), a proposal for a plan to resume performing arts and live music activities at the end of the health emergency, which was sent to all government bodies and trade associations. The work continued and evolved in the following months, involving other promoters of various entities active in the performing arts sector and leading to the drafting of the Operational Protocol for the reopening of live performance spaces and events #Ricominciamo, signed by over eighty unions.
In December of the same year, the City of Milan awarded him the Ambrogino d'Oro gold medal.
In 2021 Trotta was artistic director of Many Hearts, One Love, the streaming show recorded at the Blue Note in Milan (with the collaboration of Casta Diva Group) and broadcast on 8 May, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, with the participation of 39 artists including Malika Ayane, Paolo Fresu, Milo Manara, Ermal Meta, Franco Mussida, Enrico Ruggeri, Tosca and many others. The proceeds of the show were donated to support the work of the IFRC volunteers.
During the same year he conceived the format of Comfort Festival™️ and collaborated in the organization of its first edition, on 3 and 4 September at the Parco Urbano G. Bassani in Ferrara: two days of concerts with 28 Italian and international artists on two stages - including the A.R.M.O.N.I.A. stage organized by Slow Music - including Edoardo Bennato, Hothouse Flowers, Gianluca Grignani, Nick Lowe, Morgan, Stefano Di Battista, Il Muro del Canto and many others. Again with Slow Music he produces a series of A.R.M.O.N.I.A. concerts at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan with the format Slow Gaber - Omaggio al Sig.G, with two special evenings with Morgan and Niccolò Fabi at the Amphitheatre of Sutri, in Avellino in Piazza Del Duomo and in diffuse locations in the Emilian Apennines.
