grandson is the pseudonym of Jordan Benjaminoriginally from New Jersey, transplanted to Canada and eventually to Los Angeles. His first single Bills - released in September 2016, currently with 12 million streams on Spotify - attracted the attention of the RCA Records who immediately put him under contract. In his music, grandson combines rock and roll, hip hop and electronic music to tell stories about taking back control of your life, address social issues dear to his generation and speak openly about issues such as substance addiction and mental health. Since the release of the three EP series A Modern Tragedy, grandson has travelled the world, racking up millions of streams and collaborating with a range of activists inside and outside the music world, from the aforementioned Tom Morello until Bernie Sanders. December 2020 grandson released on the label Fueled By Ramen his debut album Death of an Optimistwho mixes his personal anxieties with political reality. As the protagonist, grandson simultaneously explores the darker side of his relentless optimism for change by creating an antagonist, X. With an ambitious project, grandson offers a classic structure with an A-side and a B-side for a total of twelve tracks where he and X confront each other about their differing worldviews. In DOAO, grandson expresses the urgent need to do something: 'After the most difficult year of our lives, it is time to face your reflection staring back at you from the mirror because only then can you understand who you really are,' he says. Showing a conflicted soul and analysing it carefully has the advantage of not dictating what is right and wrong, but only shows that we are all united in this struggle.
