Chosen by Blackberry Smoke to open the tour that had also touched Italy in early 2023, the Southall - formerly known as Read Southall Band - return in Milan on Saturday 10 February 2024 for a headlining stage at Legend Club. I tickets will be available on Ticketone e Ticketmaster from 10am on Friday 14 July.
The line-up's third studio album, For The Birds (2021), mixes the vigorous energy of rock'n'roll with country and Southern rock elements. From classic to contemporary rock, his songs will appeal to fans of Gary Stewart, Joe Walsh, Rival Sons e Chris Cornell.
"I don't think we would be a band without this album," says frontman Southall. "For a while we only concentrated on touring and life on the road and didn't take care of the music properly. In a way, we needed a year off the road. We made an album and it worked. We refocused and decided that this is what we want to do."
Southall and his bandmates realise that the album's long gestation and changes in sound may require some adjustment to the fans' taste. But that enthusiastic uncertainty is reflected in the title of the new album. "We wrote For the Birds because after so long we were worried that no one was waiting for us,' he says Southall. "So maybe this record is 'for the birds'. If you like it, you like it. It is what it is. For us, it's six people making music."
