ELBOW, NEW ALBUM AND TOUR: THE BRITISH BAND COMES TO FLORENCE

The Elbow, the innovative Manchester-based band that has built credibility over a career spanning more than 20 years, mixing indie, Brit-pop, post-rock and electronic sounds, arrive in Italy on 25 August in Florence at the Cavea of the New Opera House for the very first time with a concert of their own, as headliners.

With the release of their sixth studio album, 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything", it can be said that the Elbow occupy a unique position in the music scene. Few bands can boast a career spanning more than 20 years without a line-up change. And yet, the Elbow of 2014 are the same as those of 1992: Guy Garvey under the heading, Mark Potter on guitar, Pete Turner to the bass, Craig Potter on keyboards and Richard Jupp to the battery.

Consistency, honesty and sincerity are the cornerstones of a band that has always challenged itself by exploring new creative ways, with one goal: to make great records. It is no coincidence that, for the making of "The Take Off and Landing of Everything"Where in the past the songs were the result of a process involving the band as a whole, now, by mutual agreement, each song is written by a single member. Recorded in part in the Real World Studios by Peter Gabriel in Wiltshire, the record also features the Hallé Orchestra on some tracks, and long-time friend Jimi Goodwin of Doves, to the choruses in the single 'New York Morning".

Always respected by critics, starting with the debut ep 'Noisebox"of 1998, the Elbow have gone from being a niche name to the status of globally recognised artists: proof of this are the numerous awards they have received, from Mercury Prize for the album 'The Seldom Seen Kid"(2008), to the Brit Award in the 'Best Band' category, up to the Ivor Novello and NME Award (2009).
