When at the end of 2021 the Gov't Mule have published Heavy Load Blues, candidate for the Grammy Awardsonly a few listeners could have guessed that this was only the first part of a two-album project by the guitarist/singer Warren Haynes and his bandmates, drummer Matt Abtsthe bass player Jorgen Carlssonand the keyboardist Danny Louis. While Heavy Load Blues was conceived as a live in the studio exploring the variegations of the blues, in the midst of that creative journey Haynes found themselves with an incredible amount of new material venturing outside of that musical genre. The result is the twelfth studio album by the Mulethe glittering Peace...Like a River.

Co-produced by Warren Haynes e John Paterno, Peace...Like a River skilfully combines structure and spontaneity. The concise compositions coexist perfectly with the instrumental journeys typical of the band, and the lyrical themes of Haynesare the glue for the extraordinary sonic variety of the new LP. In addition to contributions from the line-up's historical collaborators, Peace...Like a River also hosts some friends of the Mule among them Billy F. Gibbons, Billy Bob Thornton, Ruthie Foster, Ivan Neville and the acclaimed singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Celisse; extraordinary artistic talents that further enrich the listening experience.

"Most of these songs were written during the lockdown," says Haynes. "I made a conscious decision: I didn't want to write a bunch of Covid-centred songs. Rather, Haynes decided to explore the changes he and everyone else was going through. "I wanted to focus on the positive aspects: what we are learning, and especially what we previously took for granted and have come to appreciate."

"Our mission has always been to try to create music that does not disfigure alongside the extraordinary artists who have influenced us," he revealed Haynes. Few things would make him happier than to know that someone among his listeners Peace...Like a River asked himself, "Am I listening to a record from the 1970s? Because I don't know how I could have missed it back then!".
