Part love story, part history lesson, the extraordinary new album by Fantastic Negrito White Jesus Black Problems (Storefront Records, 2022) is an enthralling ode to the strength of family and the enduring resilience of humankind. Inspired by the interracial - and illegal - love story of his ancestors, a white servant girl and a black slave in 1750s Virginia, the album's tracks are daring and thought-provoking in addressing issues such as racism, capitalism and the true meaning of freedom, without ever losing sight of the desire and determination behind the narrative. Each track alone can sum up the meaning of the entire album, but analysing the album and its accompanying film as a whole leads to a much more transcendent experience, one that challenges knowledge about our identity, where we come from and where we are headed.

Born Xavier Paul Dphrepaulezz, Negrito He grew up in an orthodox Muslim family in Oakland, California.
