A year later, the black music of Fantastic Negrito for three summer dates not to be missed: Wednesday 6 June at Parco Tittoni in Desio (MB), Thursday 7 June at Covo Summer Club in Bologna e Friday 8 June at the Monk in Rome (admission with ARCI membership card), for the Mojo Fest. Fantastic Negrito is the essence and truth of being human told in the form of black music. Each song is the story of this Oakland musician who experienced the possibility of a million dollar contract with a major label, but decided to give it all up. A musician who survived a terrifying car accident and, after a four-week coma, is like a phoenix ready to rise again. Fantastic Negrito enchanted everyone during the concert openings of Chris Cornell and during his first headlining acts. His music emphasises caution and space, between slide guitar, drums and piano. Rather than revisiting his models, Fantastic Negrito leaves Lead Belly and Skip James intact and builds with them a bridge to a modern sound with loops and samples of his live instruments.
Fantastic Negrito achieved success in 2015 when he won the NPR Tiny Desk Contest and his ep reached number one on the blues charts in the US, UK, Germany and Asia. 2016 saw the release of his new albumThe Last Days of Oaklandhas been featured in numerous television appearances and accompanied Chris Cornell touring North America and Europe, as well as performing over the years with Sturgill Simpson, Solange and Temple of the Dog. Fantastic Negrito peaked when his album, The Last Days of Oakland won Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 59th Grammy Awards.
