Currently working on a forthcoming new album, the Voivod will be in Italy together with the Nightrage for three unmissable dates to preview new music and celebrate their 35-year career: Tuesday 18 September at Locomotiv Club in Bologna, Wednesday 19 September at Largo Venue in Rome e Thursday 20 September at Santeria Social Club, Milan. I tickets will be on sale on the Vivaticket from 10 a.m. on Wednesday 6 June.
Anomalous. Indispensable. Iconoclasts. A "band for a band". These are the obscure words that sum up the experience of a group of artists who have been collaborating for over thirty years, four guys from Quebec stunned by art, addicted to hashish and influenced by Venom e Mötörhead. Post-heavy metal, pre-MTV. It was the 80s and the threat of nuclear war was in the air, so why not enjoy the moment by sipping absinthe, composing music and sporting leather and studs?
Michel Langevin conceived a universe, a character, an anti-hero: the Voivod. Dressed in the eccentric fabric of Bram Stoker and Stanley Kubrick, the Voivod was a vampire lord in a post-nuclear age. Immortal and unstoppable. The ultimate goal of every artist. Michel chose to take on the powers of his creation by breathing life into the Voivod universe, setting up a garage band to carry the adventures of this creature. The late Daniel D'Amour took care of the music. The boy nicknamed Piggy composed a debut album full of brutal power, metallic intensity, jazz turns and brash noise. Daniel he also began to develop a crazy style with his chords, solos and tonalities combining the technicalities of Robert Fripp with the power of Tony Iommi. Piggy worked hard to make the Away (Michel Langevin), Blacky (Jean-Yves Thériault) e Snake (Denis Bélanger) a formidable band. And it succeeded, as evidenced by the long list of albums and tours undertaken over the last three decades.
