Transformation is at the heart of the mindset and music of Chris Corner. Ever since he left the popular 1990s trip-hop group Trainer Pimpsthe path that led Corner to become IAMX started in 2004 was theatrical, transcendent and public. Androgynous and instinctive, IAMX he went from being a working-class village boy to becoming an international pop star in the 1990s and then further transformed in the 2000s into the creator of pure art that transcends sexual and musical genres. The mix of goth, industrial, electronic experimentation, punk energy and intimate lyricism make sound, style, performance, video and the character itself of Corner absolutely out of the ordinary, iconoclastic and incredibly profound.
During an adolescence as a socially anxious geek, the interest of Corner for music was aroused by a strange uncle who played weird music for him. Interest turned into obsession, and obsession into a resource through which Corner began to explore his growing attraction to technology. This interest endures to the present day, as IAMX produces his own music as well as writing and playing it: the weird kid who spent so much time in his bedroom has become the iconoclastic artist who recently locked himself in a caravan in the desert to mix his new album Alive In New Light.
