After his last album Alive In New Light (Orphic) published this year, Chris Corner aka IAMX returns this December with a revival of the single Mile Deep Hollow, in which swirling loops and electronic productions offer a powerful and personal performance by the artist. The track, in a crescendo of energy, is presented in seven different versionsthe first is a reworking of the album's original track, the others are revisited in a different key each time, the most iconic being the one boasting the collaboration with DJ Haezerand the one realised with the choir of the Public School 22 in Staten Island, New York. Simultaneously, on 14 December, the official video of the songwhich stages a journey into the abysses of the artist's mind, a dark enigma that transports viewers into a trance-like state.
Transformation is at the heart of the mindset and music of IAMX. Ever since he left the popular group trip-hop of the 1990s Trainer Pimpsthe path that led Corner to become IAMX started in 2004 was theatrical, transcendent and public. Androgynous and instinctive, he went from being a child labourer in the village to becoming an international pop star in the 1990s and then further transformed in the 2000s into the creator of pure art that transcends sexual and musical genres. The mix of goth, industrialelectronic experimentation, punk energyand intimate lyricism make sound, style, performance, video and the character itself of Cornerabsolutely out of the ordinary, iconoclastic and incredibly profound.
