After last April's Italian concerts, the multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson will be engaged in a new show to present his latest work Rare Birdsreleased last March by Bella Union. The unmissable concert, this time in the company of his band, is scheduled for Sunday 16 September at Santeria Social Club in Milan. The past year has been a very busy one for Wilson: in addition to having produced the album Pure Comedy by Father John Misty, has collaborated with Roger Waters for Is This The Life We Really Want? and has won great recognition for its work with Karen Elson at Double Roses. However, it does not appear that the multi-instrumentalist plans to rest during 2018, which will see him simultaneously engaged in two tours, the one together with Waters and its Rare Birds tour 2018in support of the new album. For this work Wilson made use of excellent collaborators, including Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty and the New Age music guru Laraaji, and moved towards a totally new sound with synthesisers and drum machines that will make music critics desist from comparing his music to Laurel Canyon's singer-songwriters: 'Comparisons to Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Dennis Wilson and Tom Petty are very flattering, but I don't really feel I resemble them. In this album I refer to earlier versions of my music, continuing a musical narrative that began when I recorded my first four songs when I was thirteen. I feel the influence of my vocal coach and the influence of having worked for months in my studio with Roger Waters at the same time I was recording this album. This gave me the feeling of being able to expand and forge new sonic labyrinths'.
