After a series of dates in Europe and the United States, the Kenyan singer-songwriter nominee for the Grammy Awards Ondara adds new stages to its Rebirth Tour including a single Italian date Thursday 23 November 2023 at Biko in Milan. I tickets will be available from 10 a.m. on Friday 4 August at SaysAccess to the concert requires a ARCI card.
The tour will offer Italian fans the opportunity to hear the songs that make up The Spanish Villager No. 3, the most recent work by OndaraHe says: 'This collection of songs and the effort required to present them to the world are a metaphor for my spiritual journey. There is death and resurrection in the album, a succession of layers, a search for the most authentic form of self in the universe. Ironically, the character of the Spanish Villager made me know myself better. In creating a clear demarcation between art and artist, I have traced two paths of maturation: one is the maturation of the Spanish Villager as a work of art, a character in a narrative, a commodity participating in the compulsory sport of capitalism; the other is my personal maturation as a member of society: spiritual, integrated and useful."
The character behind this new album, the Spanish Villagerhe is a mysterious man who carries a strong message and has proved to be a versatile guy: he is the protagonist of a story that Ondara later turned into a graphic novel, and is also the title and inspiration for the Minneapolis-based musician's extraordinary third album, Spanish Villager No: 3. The character's name is derived from the word Ondara, which in addition to being a traditional name of the artist's Kenyan tribe is also a small village located in Spain.
"The Spanish Villager began to take shape during the most difficult period of my life, and when it came to life it gathered all the anxieties about my journey and the new world I had moved to,' he says Ondaraborn and raised in Kenya before moving to Minnesota in his early twenties.
Spanish Villager No: 3 comes later Folk N' Roll Vol 1: Tales of Isolation (2020), and the 2019 debut album Tales of America, who received a nomination as Best American Album at Grammy Awards.
Ondara grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, listening to American alt-rock and writing his own songs. At an early age he fell in love with the music of Bob Dylan and manages to obtain a Green Card through the lottery system; always thinking of Bob Dylan chose Minneapolis as his base to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter, and made his way into the music scene by writing songs about his experience of living in a place very different from his homeland.
