4 December 1993 Frank Zappa turned his eyes on the earthly world, leaving behind the luminous wake of an extraordinarily innovative and as yet unexplored artistic heritage.
18 December 201320 years later, his music is reborn live at the Milan Auditorium reinterpreted by the Verdi Orchestra, the Ossi Duri and some very special guests including Elio (Elio e Le Storie Tese) .
As part of the American Autumn programme, Barley Arts and laVerdi offer a much-needed reinterpretation of the timeless art of Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention, the band that has always accompanied him live and in the studio since the first album Freak Out of 1966 to the latest brilliant The Yellow Shark of 1993. E it will be precisely the latter's original scores that will come to life in an exceptional performance by the Verdi Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Danilo Grassi, together with the music of other great composers such as Stravinskji and Varèsein a white night entirely dedicated to the genius of the late artist.
The programme is dense and decidedly varied. It begins at 6 p.m. with the presentation of the book-interview "Frank and the rest of the world"of Alessandra Izzo. The author recounts 'his' Zappa, evoking his universe as an all-round yet multi-faceted artist, in a fresco that spans the life, works, music and thought of 'the greatest composer of the 20th century'. The debate, which will also be attended by other Zappa historians such as Claudio Trotta, Luigi Corbani e Giancarlo Trombettiwill be introduced and moderated by journalist and writer Ezio Guaitamacchi.
Giancarlo Trombetti is also the creator of a magical retrospective of original archive footage tracing the live performances of Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention. Fifteen hours of extremely rare material will be screened in the Auditorium throughout the evening.
As for the event's strong theme, live music, it begins at 8.30 p.m. with laVerdiconducted by Maestro Danilo Grassiwhich will breathe new life into some of Frank Zappa's historic compositions. The Orchestra concert will be followed by the Hard Bones, a band formed on 4 December 1993 to pay a personal tribute to the genius of the recently deceased Frank Zappa, its members' musical mentor. Their passion for Zappa and his particular musical approach, steeped in goliardia and irony, has led the five members of Ossi Duri to forge collaborations over the years with other like-minded musicians. Among these Elio (Elio e Le Storie Tese), who on this special occasion will take the stage with them at the Milan Auditorium to celebrate a unique artist in music.
Tickets are on presale on the Ticketone circuit (online at www.ticketone.it and in local outlets) and Vivaticket (www.vivaticket.it), as well as at the Auditorium box office.
