Wednesday 12 April at the local Alpheus in Romethe last date of the tour of the NoisePinkwhich started just a year ago in Florence. What better occasion then to chat with the band about these twelve very intense months for the band.
In April last year, the tour started, prior to the release of your debut album 'Small Mental Disorders'. How difficult was it for you to organise the band on the road, an arrangement that was then maintained for a whole year, interspersed with the recording and release of the album?
PiXie : In terms of living together, it wasn't very different from everyday life...we've known each other for so long and spend so many hours together, including holidays, that we know and try to respect every balance. It's not always easy, we have some pretty good tempers between us all, but the fights and slamming doors are so Rock'n'Roll that we can't help but love them! With a 'WOMAN' in the group, what can I tell you!
MARGOT Organise?! referring to me is really a big word.....I get out of the house with my three suitcases at the prearranged time, one of the guys picks me up, I get in the van, I talk a lot of shit and argue with PiXie for sure, I pee at more or less every autogrill we meet, I arrive at my destination without knowing shit........and so on for a whole year... life as a "STAR"... nice right?
CLAUDE : I think it was more difficult to change the way of thinking often... once you get into the touring mentality it's a stress to stop it to get into the studio, then to get back into it, then to do a radio tour, then concerts again... there were very chaotic periods! ...but thank goodness!!! when nothing happens we break out.
Two famous and important festivals in June: the Flippaut Festival in Bologna, along with Audioslave, Slipknot and Prodigy, and the Iviva Festival in Basel, backing Gotthard. Feelings of being on such prestigious stages?
K A festival is always a party! It's just the atmosphere around these events that you enjoy... so many young people gathered for the music, the stands, the foreign guests, the food so good it hurts... in short, how can you not be over the moon when you're there to do what you've always wanted in life?
MARGOT : To be honest, we never dread going on stage, but you feel adrenalin rushing to your brain the two minutes before you go on stage. You feel like a beast... and you think now I'm going to go out and "smash" everything!!!!
PIXIE the cast factor must be taken into account!!! If the names on the programme don't match the genre we do, you risk presenting yourself to the 'wrong' audience! At Flippaut, we perceived a bit of risk... But it's always a good thing to challenge yourself in uncomfortable situations...
CLAUDE : However, some of our fans who follow us around Italy we won them at flippaut and they were wearing Slipknot t-shirts... mother fucker!!!
Some venues, such as Circolone in Legnano and the Holiday Café in Gozzano, are deliberately included several times in the itinerary throughout the year. The choice is very old-style: start by creating a local fan-base, play on word-of-mouth, and try to fill the venue more at subsequent concerts. Good choice ?
K Absolutely! We've played a lot in Piedmont, and you can see the results... word of mouth works, so every time you come back to perform you find the audience doubled. It's not so much an attempt to fill the venue (let's leave that to the managers!) for us, it's fundamental to see that a feeling is established between you and the people, that what you want to express arrives...
MARGOT We've created a sort of following of fans who always manage to surprise us..... Just to give you one example, on Saturday night we played in our area, around ten o'clock the door of the club opened and two of our fans from Piedmont jumped out, they had come all the way from Cuneo to Florence for our concert... these are priceless satisfactions...
November 2005 is the month in which the tour extends to Southern Italy. You visit Taranto, Cosenza, Palermo and Catania. What has been the public's reaction to your concerts?
MARGOT It was the first time we appeared live in the south of the boot..... "who knows what awaits us, they say that the audience there is warmer..." and in fact Puglia and Calabria were delirious, two great dates, lots of people and a lot of 'noise'... Sicily was a little colder... also because it was -7°...... we want to make up for it!!!
PIXIE : It was four days full of anecdotes and a lot of rock'n'roll!! we unexpectedly found people who had been following us for a long time in both Apulia and Calabria! A very attentive audience for emerging music!
If you had to name the best date of your tour, which one would you choose?
PIXIE How difficult!!! The first that comes to mind is ANOMALIA in Prato... we were playing at home I know, but I assure you it was full of people I've never seen before! They sang the encore from beginning to end with a stadium volume!!! And then absolutely the two Pussy Rock concerts! That little club has entered our hearts! And the girls who run it are total freaks!!! It was like being at CBGB's!!! People packed to the top of the stage, sweat and lots of degeneracy!!! Big Pussy Girls!!!!
MARGOT in light of the facts, maybe it's because we're almost at the end but for sure the last three dates have been the most exciting and fun....at a certain point, especially when you have an audience following you, you know that you don't need to prove yourself, you just do it... orgasmic!!!!!
RumoreRosa is a rock band. So, rattle off a few anecdotes about the tour, like some brawls, drunkenness, elopement.
K I don't like to think that rock has to respond to stereotypes, but it does happen a lot to find oneself in anomalous situations! There are many anecdotes... that time at the Red House Margot... and the time in Parma when Margot... er... well, we have a lot of fun!
MARGOT We'll write a diary one day...for now, let's see: fights: under the stage for a matter of exaggerated POGO I think.....of the series: Hey, you stepped on my foot...you gave me a shoulder and so on...but we never took part! Drunks: as many as you want....so, consequently, elopements galore....
PIXIE : Every night someone went back to the hotel on their elbows!!!
Any anticipations about the future?
PIXIE : First of all get back on the van this summer to do an avalanche of concerts that Barley is already preparing for us!!! Then continue our radio tour and we expect to be back in the studio by September...we'll see...
K : We are already working on new pieces... but we will still have the opportunity to take the Small Mental Disorders show around Italy (and why not beyond the Alps) in the summer. MARGOT FUTURE? RumoreRosa on Stage!!!!!!
NOISE We would like to take this opportunity to tell you that we are really very proud to team up with all of you at Barley... to be part of your stable. Everything we have told you above, and especially what we have omitted, would never have happened without your effective work!
you were a marvel... We love you!!!!
