The American indie rock band Sir Chloe, who became known to a very young audience thanks to the viral hit Michelle on TikTok, is coming to Italy for the first time on a single occasion on Thursday 29 June 2023 at Rock'n'Roll in Milan. Tickets are already available on Ticketone.
Sir Chloe was born in 2017 when frontwoman Dana Foote, then a music composition student at Bennington College in Vermont, chose to write a concert consisting only of original music instead of a classic thesis. Helping her are her brother Palmer Foote along with long-time friends Teddy O'Mara, Emma Welch and Austin Holmes.
Dana writes the band's first two singles, Michelle and Animal, on the floor of his college dormitory. The line-up records the songs at dawn, during the only free studio time inside the school; the rest of the Party Favors EP is recorded in a shed that the boys converted into a recording studio with just $100 and a lot of good will. This rather homemade work soon turned into something colossal, and thanks to the success of the EP, Sir Chloe went on tour with Portugal. The Man and alt-J, opening for the Pixies and embarking on a headlining tour in the US and Europe.
In her free time from touring, Dana collaborated with Grammy Award-winning producer John Congelton on what would become Sir Chloe's debut album, I Am the Dog, which was also composed with the help of Teddy Geiger and Sarah Tudzin of the Illuminati Hotties. Working with a real team was both a support and a challenge for Dana, and the result is a more mature and stylistically dynamic song cycle. I Am the Dog is about regaining control within the entropic chaos that reigns in nature and life: "The violence of the natural world is pretty constant throughout the record," says Dana. "It's about regaining control within that violence. It is an album that strives to build tensions as exquisite as they are impossible, playing with contrast, resolving it and destabilising any comfortable solution once again. Dana is not so much interested in resting as in wondering why she cannot.
