One year after the sold-out show at Alcatraz in Milan, Television are once again bringing the full version of their masterpiece 'Marquee Moon' to Italian stages: Wednesday 17 June 2015 at the Teatro Romano in Fiesole (FI). Tickets are available from Ticketone and points of sale Vivaticket.
Television's music has always followed unconventional directions, laying the foundations for many post-punk bands that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Guitarists Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd never conformed to the traditional canons of improvisation in rock, setting aside the blues in favour of the raw energy of garage, and adding complex references to jazz in the solo parts.
Television was formed in New York in late 1973, from the meeting of singer/guitarist Tom Verlaine with drummer Bily Ficca, bassist Richard Hell (later replaced by Fred Smith) and guitarist Richard Lloyd. The band began performing at a venue on Bowery Street: it was a club destined to go down in rock history, the legendary CBGB's, which would soon become a venue for punk and new wave artists such as Patti Smith, Blondie, Ramones and Talking Heads. After releasing the self-produced single 'Little Johnny Jewel"(1975), Television attracted the attention of several majors and, in 1977, released their debut album 'Television'.Marquee Moon"with Elektra Records. In the USA, the album was received with great critical acclaim, although it failed to attract a large audience; in the UK, on the contrary, it reached No. 28 in the charts and sold out at all stages of the ensuing theatre tour. In 1978, the band's second album was released, "Adventure"(Elektra Records), but a few months later the line-up suddenly disbanded.
In 1991, Television reformed and recorded the eponymous album for Capitol Records. Since then, the band has continued to perform sporadically around the world. In 2007, Richard Lloyd left the band and was replaced by Jimmy Rip, Tom Verlaine's former collaborator since the early 1980s. The new line-up is currently finishing recording a new album.
Television are Tom Verlaine (vocals and guitar), Jimmy Rip (guitar and backing vocals), Fred Smith (bass and backing vocals) and Billy Ficca (battery).
