THE ITALIAN TOUR - AUTUMN 2004 : THE RETURN OF DAN BLACK'S SERVANTS

An alternative rock quartet from London's underground, Servant are a crazy jam session of infinite influences: imagine Prince and the Smiths arm in arm with Dr Dre and the Talking Heads and then spice it all up with bizarre metropolitan thoughts. Led by the charismatic Dan Black, already well known in Italy thanks to his collaboration on PLANET FUNK's debut album where he sang on four tracks, Servant are, according to the Times of London, 'the new poets of the urban underclass'. In short, a band outside the box, a unique and overwhelming experience of the senses and intellect. A band that sounds macabre and futuristic even in its most melodic and immediate moments. Dan's vocal style leaves the domain of 'dance' to join echoes of the Smiths' sensibility, the groove of the Stone Roses and the lyrical class of Pulp, well supported by the other members of Servant, Matt Fisher (bass) Chris Burrows (guitar) and Trevor Scarpe (drums). SERVANT's eponymous debut album, which follows the release of an EP two years later, is entirely composed by Dan and co-produced by Steve Dub, formerly of the Chemical Brothers.
