After having accompanied Billy Bragg, The Proclaimers e Frank Turnerfolk singer-songwriter arrives in Italy Will Varley! The appointment is for Saturday 21 April 2018 at Serraglio in Milan. The intoxicating sense of the unknown pervades the music of Will Varleyso well rooted in the old folk traditions we all know, but with a voice and lyricism different from the masses, perhaps due to the clash between Will's young age and his wisdom, or perhaps it is the modern age, which Will manages to photograph well with his introspective reflections.
After releasing two self-produced albums, in 2015 Will signature with the Xtra Mile Recordings and public Postcards From Ursa Minorwhich propelled him into new territory. It would have been easy to live off the land for a while, but, as he sings in Seize The Night, "If you know where you are when you wake up, something's wrong"only a year later he published Kingsdown Sundown and then Spirit Of Minniewhich will be released on 9 February and for which he is working with producer Cameron McVey (Massive Attack, Portishead). In this last work for the first time Will He builds a band to help him express the atmospheres of his pieces, which are enhanced by pedal steel, violins and piano. The album's title song is the highlight, an adventure reminiscent of the traditions of storytellers and folklore, with a crescendo of drama built on a disturbing collage of strictly unplugged sounds, almost a reminder of how powerful a group of musicians with acoustic instruments can make an image.
The return of Will on the road in 2018 follows the US tour in support of Frank Turner and solo stops in Germany and France, before returning to the United States to accompany Lincoln Durham and then back to Europe with Valerie June.
