Winners of the third season of the NBC talent show 'The Sing-Off', i Pentatonix come to Italy with a single date on 12 November at the Salumeria della Musica in Milan.
Combining complex arrangements with cleverly rethought pop songs, the young vocal group has created a style that is both unique and undeniably infectious, shattering preconceptions about music in the absence of instruments and paving the way for new sonic horizons full of possibilities to be explored.
The Pentatonix are the three soloists Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado e Mitch Grassiand the rhythm section consisting of Avi Kaplan to the vocal bass and from Kevin "K.O." Olusola in the role of beatboxer.
After successfully passing the auditions to participate in 'The Sing-Off', i Pentatonix have consolidated their sound and chemistry, developing a style that has become their signature and combining the strengths of each member. It is no coincidence that in a short period of time the group won the trust and unconditional support of an ever-growing fanbase, eventually winning the competition.
Despite drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of musical genres, - the group cites pop, jazz, r&b, indie, folk, dubstep and electronica as just some of their sources of inspiration - the quintet seems to blend it all magically: this is evident in the performance of "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Bugglesin their epic adaptation of 'The Dog Days Are Over' by Florence and the Machine and in the re-reading of 'Thrift Shop' by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
On 26 June 2012, the Pentatonix have published the debut ep - "PTX Volume 1 - for the Madison Gate Recordsdebuting at the #14 of Billboard's Top 200 with almost 20,000 copies sold in the first week. The ep includes four covers ("Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye, "Starships" by Nicki Minaj, "Aha!" by Imogen Heap and "Love You Long Time" by Jasmine Sullivan) as well as two original songs, "The Baddest Girl" and "Show You How To Love". In November of the same year they released theChristmas ep "PTXmas".
The last track of the Pentatonix is a reinterpretation of hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' hit 'Can't hold us'.
