Opening in style for the Italian tour of David Sylvian, which on Sunday at Milan Conservatory sent 1400 fans into raptures with a classy concert, quiet but at the same time of unparalleled intensity.
David plays guitar sitting centre stage, black suit and white shoes, the usual aura of charisma, in the middle of the band consisting of the indispensable Steve Jansen to percussion, from Keith Lowe bass (dressed in an elegant black kilt!) and the young and creative Takuma Watanabe at the piano. In the end, it will be almost two hours of a concert suspended in time and musical space that the artist interprets as he glides through 25 years of his repertoire, with choices that are as sophisticated as they are appreciated by the audience: among the pieces, several taken from the last years of his career, there is no shortage of Japan's Ghostnor some of the most beautiful songs from Sylvian's early solo albums, but the thrill among fans also rises when the first notes of Ridefor years a 'legend-song' finally published in the collection Everything and Nothingor of Transitborn from the collaboration of the electronics geniusChristian Fennesz. There is no shortage of screaming encores either, in the literal sense: the audience is in raptures and does not stop applauding.
David thanks, waves and smiles, gazing with love at her. And until Saturday 29 he is ready to repeat, each evening with a few surprises: among the possible choices in the line-up are Nostalgia, Blackwater and Waterfront...
