There was much anticipation for the second day of the Flippaut. I Gotan Project and the Massive Attack obviously catalysed the most attention, with attendance peaking during the band's 'Mezzanine' show.
Massive arrived in Milan with all the original members, all in great shape, a rhythm section consisting of two drummers and a bass, plus guitar and various synths. The highlight of the evening and of the whole tour was their recent release Collector'the presence of Lauren Frazerthe original voice of Teardroppunctually performed to the ovation of the audience.
Great response also for the Gotan ProjectThey took the stage at 21.30. A complete show theirs, original set design, great musicians and a handful of songs to dance to, starting with the single La Viguela'. They arrive 'Diferente', 'Lunatico', 'Santa Maria' and close with 'Tryptic'.
Out-of-the-box performance for Tom Verlaine, a semi-acoustic reinterpretation of his songs as well as a few covers, just two guitars and one voice, offering several tracks from his latest 'Songs and Other Things'.
I New Wave are perhaps the true revelation of the festival. The time of day and the heat did not make their performance of chillout renditions of songs from the past any easier, but the French band has talent to spare and those present followed their set with enthusiasm. Among the songs performed was the new single 'Don't Go, 'Bela Lugosis Dead', 'Ever Fallen in Love'.
The new project of Ivana Gatti and Gianni Maroccolo, IGturns out to be decidedly interesting. A great charge combined with refinement, an excellent string section, a six-piece line-up capable of churning out sounds of a different nature: from ethnic to rock, from melodic to improvisation... a name we will hear about.
I Robocop Kraus They take the stage at Flippaut under a very hot sun that cannot do justice to their sound all sweat and rock n' roll. But the five young Germans do just fine, with their excellent songs and good technical skills.
Alessio Bertallot repeats the performance of Boosta the previous day from the main stage, while the gladiators of the Electronic Side (also for the second day a great success for this initiative) are the Krakatoa (Samuel + DJ Pisti). The audience dances and has fun, while the temperature under the tent continues to rise, just like the ratings.
The second day was also Game with Famethe X-Box initiative that saw the public challenge the artists to console videogames... a successful and entertaining experiment.
Flippaut 2006 - International Music Session was an event of great quality, both in terms of the musical proposal and the outline. Great musicians from different genres, a Festival concept that was new for Italy, and which rivals that of the best European events. Flippaut this year was a unique, courageous, innovative and competitive happening.
Precisely for this reason, the 10,000 total attendance of this two-day event is an inadequate figure when compared to the quality of what was seen and heard on 21 and 22 July 2006 at the Idropark in Milan.
