"When you feel that perfect synchronicity with someone, it's like everything else disappears," says the guitarist/singer of the Milky Chance Clemens Rehbein. "Worries and anxieties disappear, and what remains is love."
The inevitable triumph of love over fear is at the heart of the new driving single SynchronizeIt sounds perfect for the times we are living in, as it is about finding a middle ground between existential dread and sentimental idealism. The arrangement of the track is both vintage and modern, with a cheerful sixties melody overlaid on a driving electro-pop rhythm section, and the band's performance is nothing short of hypnotic, fuelled by jaunty guitars, ethereal synths and a 4/4 kick drum that sources everything with relentless momentum. Add all these elements together and you get a dark and dreamy vision of the power of human connections in the face of environmental destruction, a new sonic terrain that finds solace and escape in the embrace of a lover.
"We always try to surprise ourselves while in the studio," says the bassist/percussionist. Phillipp Dausch. "Being on the road all the time can lead you to have a pretty narrow view of things, but we've spent quite a bit more time at home over the last few years, and a break like that has really helped us find a new perspective on things."
Synchronize follows the release of the penultimate single Coloradowhich has racked up nearly 100 million streams and anticipated the surprise release of the 2021 album Trip Tape.
"A friend once said that my music is perfect for depressed students who hate their lives," she jokes. Florence Arman when asked how she imagines her audience. "There might be some truth in it, actually!".
The disarming humour and honesty of this up-and-coming singer-songwriter goes hand in hand with her bittersweet interpretation of pop: deep, cultured, playful and devastating at the same time, inspired by dark times but with a ray of light. Her path was marked from the beginning. Born into a family where both parents and all grandparents were musicians, the rule of the house was 'if you're old enough to hold a crayon, you're old enough to learn to play your first instrument'. At the age of four Florence plays the violin, and most of his 63 cousins worked in the music business. One of his brothers is a jazz guitarist with the fastest fingers in Europeand another is an author and the best producer in the world. At the age of 11 Florence began writing her own music and learned to play guitar while listening to Avril Lavigne. Her skills as a songwriter soon became apparent, and the drum and bass duo Camo & Krooked asks him to write a song for them, and later to be their vocalist. For the occasion, she chooses the stage name Klei - clay in Dutch - which suits his approach to music. Since then, he has collaborated with the likes of The Kooks, Barns Courtney, Rhys Lewis, G-Flip, Crystal Fighters e Harry Hudson.
