From Canada, a land that is providing the best indie bands of the moment, comes The Organfive very young girls who are reviving the sound of the Eighties of Smiths, Cure and Siouxie, and arriving at for the first time in Italy at the end of April. At Transilvania Live in Milan The Organ will play a co-headlining concert with the British Infadels.
Here is some news about the Canadian band.
Formed in 2001, the five girls from Vancouver, CanadaThey have already emerged as one of the most promising bands from Canada in recent years.
Led by the charming Katie Sketcha classically trained singer, The Organ play melancholic and melodic music reminiscent of 80s greats such as the Smiths and the Cures. The line up is completed by Debora Cohen on guitar, Shelby Stocks to the battery, SchmooKatie's sister, on bass, and Jenny Smith to the organ.
When Katie and Jenny's first instrumental band, Full Sketch, broke up, they began auditioning for new members, until they found the right combination of people who were all going in the same musical direction. And so The Organ was born.
2002 saw the release of the band's first EP, "Sinking Hearts". Together with their captivating live shows, the EP proved to be an interesting introduction to the band, and attracted a lot of interest from both the record industry and the fans.
In 2004, The Organ's debut album "Grab that Gun"was released by Mint/604 in North America. Originally produced by Kurt Dahle of the New Pornographers, the band were unhappy with the near-perfect results and wanted to return to an edgier sound they felt more comfortable with. So the whole album was recorded all over again, this time with Paul Forgues e Todd Simko. Katie brilliantly supervised the operations in order to achieve the results the group was determined to achieve.
And it can be said that it has succeeded. In fact, the album is so well defined musically and so lyrically mature that it is hard to believe that 'Grab That Gun' was created by a group of girls in their early twenties.

They say about them :
On "Grab That Gun" (Mint), Deborah Cohen's guitar melodies are as hooky and sad a Katie Sketch's vocals, forming an awkward reply to each chorus. Comparisons to The Smiths and Joy Division are easy, but Ms. Sketch's lyrics have a remarkable way of being aloof without sounding arrogant'.
The New York Times
The Organ's music is consistently compared to 80's new wave and post-punk European bands such as Joy Division and The Cure, and rightfully so. With the debut of their first full length album last year, The Organ solidify themselves as heirs apparent to the melancholy alternative artists of the 80's who stressed expression, sensitivity and mood over the speed and fury of punk rock and heavy metal.
