OKEAN ELZY, the most famous and award-winning rock band from Ukraine, comes to Italy -for the first time in Milan- for a unique date of the "20 Years Together! The Okean Elzy ('Elza's Ocean) were formed in 1994 in Lviv, Ukraine, and quickly became an iconic band in the former Soviet Republics: the group's nine albums (the latest 'Zemlya(2013) have accompanied the nation's recent socio-political history, thanks also to the Okeans' strong activist leanings towards ideals of democracy and peace. In 2005 the front man Svyatoslav Vakarchuk has been designated United Nations Ambassador for youth development in Ukraine, while in 2013, Okean Elzy played in front of tens of thousands of people during the Euromaidan protests leading up to the revolution in February 2014.
The band has broken down language barriers with its music, characterised by a combination of European sound, Ukrainian poetry and Slavic melodies, which has made the quintet extremely popular outside Ukraine. This is quite an unusual phenomenon for a band that writes lyrics exclusively in its mother tongue.
This year Okean Elzy celebrate their 20th birthday with a long series of concerts. The Ukrainian branch of the tour was the biggest event in the country's history: ten stadiums in ten major cities, with more than half a million spectators, including the 75,000 fans who attended the concert at the 'Kiev'.NSK Olympiyski, Kievthe largest stadium in the country.
