DEEP PURPLE'S TRIUMPHANT ITALIAN TOUR ENDED YESTERDAY

A great rock and audience success: three memorable concerts for the almost 15,000 people who attended the three sold-out stages of the Italian tour of the Deep Purple. It all ended yesterday in Varese with a frenzied crowd after the date of Pordenone and the crowded stop at Mantua.
After the gritty and well-received performance by the audience of the The Styles, the roar welcomes Gillan, Paice (pictured), Glover, Morse and Airey pressing the fans with Pictures of homeperformed with a grit that shows no signs of ageing. They arrive 'Strange kind of woman', 'Rapture of the Deep' (several tracks from the last album of absolute value as confirmed by the fans' reaction), Blind Man, Lazy, Perfect Stranger and other great tracks by the hard rock band, before closing with Highway Star e Smoke on the Water.
The band comes out in trupid and Gillan, despite a career spanning almost forty years, makes no secret of his delight at such a large and warm audience: 'It's fantastic,' he exclaims
There can be no shortage of encores on the evening in Varese:
'Speedking' (stretched in the middle by a medley of tracks by Elvis), 'Hush' (the band's first single, dated 1969) and 'Black Night'.
The Italian Year of Deep Purple (nine concerts for them in 2007, all with Barley Arts) could not have ended in a better way than with these three exciting dates.
