Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Courtney Marie Andrews began playing guitar and composing at the age of 13, and performing at 15. In 2009, the frontman of Jimmy Eat World, Jim Adkinsasks her to join the band on stage to sing a song from the Wilco, You and Iand the following year the relationship was further strengthened.
